If you live in the NYC/DC/Boston area and are sick of the cold, you jet to Florida – it’s a fact. Similar to the migration pattern of birds, us humans attempt to flock to warmer weather too. Of course, the moment I decided to book a trip to Miami, a heat wave arrived in NYC soooo joke’s on me. However, nothing beats the fun I had in Miami!
I stayed in South Beach, arguably one of the most popular party venues in Florida. If you’re going to SoBe to head to the beach and hit up some bars, make sure to stay in a hotel on Ocean Drive/Collins Avenue around 15th Street. There was an architectural revolution here in the 1930s, so buildings are low-rise and nautical themed. Hence, parts of SoBe are also called the Art Deco district.
My rule of thumb while staying at a hotel is to stay somewhere that’s clean and convenient. I’m not much of a luxury traveler, although I do like my luxury trips every now and then 😉 . As a result, we stayed at The Hall on Collins Avenue. The hotel met all my standards and I was pleasantly surprised that they also offered chairs and towels on the beach! My one point of discontent was late check out. Our flight wasn’t till 5pm, but the latest check-out time they were able to offer was noon.
If you’re in Miami, you MUST go to a pool party. Similar to Vegas, there’s usually a great DJ and tons of people having a great time. You’ll see a lot of bachelor/bachelorette parties too, so prepare for flashy bottle service every few minutes. One of the best pool parties in Miami is at Hyde Beach in the SLS hotel. I went there on a Saturday afternoon and didn’t leave till 6pm. It is pricey though, but the entry fee is to be used towards food/drinks, so it evens out.

Other places to party include: Liv, the Clevelander, Mango’s (great performances starting at 8pm) and Wall Lounge.
Places to eat: Ola, The Bazaar (amazing Jose Andres restaurant), Versailles (dubbed the best Cuban food in Florida) or anywhere along Ocean Drive (there’s a ton of bars/restaurants along that strip).
What to wear:
- SPF!!! I can’t stress this enough. Not only is it hot in Miami, it’s humid. The sun is strong and you absolutely require protection.
- Loose cotton clothes. For when you’re walking around.
- Bathing suits. Cuz duh.
- Cute outfits. For the nights you’ll go out. Join everyone that’s also dressed up and ready to have a good time!
- Cute accessories. Check out my last post for some ideas.
Are there places you love to visit in Miami? Leave me a comment and let me know, I always love hearing from you guys!
